Shape family relationships with Family Expectations, featuring parenting styles, life-event reactions, sibling dynamics, and Storyteller Tools.
Family Expectations by maplebell adds a detailed parent-child expectations system to The Sims 4, allowing parents to have different hopes, priorities, and reactions for each of their children. These expectations can shape family relationships over time, influencing how proud, disappointed, distant, or supportive a parent becomes.
Parents can set expectations in five areas: Education, Career Success, Marriage, Children, and Financial Success. Each area can be given its own importance level, from not mattering at all to being a non-negotiable goal. Parents can also have different expectations for different children, making each parent-child relationship feel more individual.
The mod includes 20 life events that can trigger parental reactions, including changes in school performance, promotions, job loss, engagements, marriages, divorces, having children, and reaching major financial milestones. Parents respond differently depending on their expectations and parenting style, while children can develop their own level of pressure based on how strongly they feel judged or pushed to succeed.
Family dynamics can develop further as approval changes over time. In larger families, one child may become the Golden Child while another can be considered the Black Sheep when differences in parental approval become significant. The mod also adds 22 family conversations, giving parents and children opportunities to discuss expectations, achievements, disappointment, future plans, relationships, and family pressure.
For players who prefer more direct storytelling control, Storyteller Tools allow approval, pressure, expectations, and parenting styles to be adjusted manually. Players can also trigger specific life events, view exact values, pause automatic changes, or reset the system for a particular parent-child relationship.
