What’s New in The Sims 4 Update

New Skin Details
The Base Game now includes new skin details for teens and older Sims. Options include Rosacea, Dark Spots, Age Spots, and Eye Bags for faces, as well as Stretch Marks and Freckles for bodies. For adult Sims, additional details such as Mouth Wrinkles and Body Wrinkles are now available.

New Feature: Pack Selection
A new Pack Selection feature allows players to customize which packs are enabled when starting a new save. This provides more control over the stories they want to tell while also freeing up resources on PC, Mac, and console. Disabling packs removes related hairstyles, clothing, objects, and gameplay functions. Once a save has been created, removing packs may affect that save, so this feature is best suited for starting new games.

DirectX 11 (DX11) Updates
For PC players with Intel GPUs, the game will now automatically default to the DirectX 11 executable. Non-Intel GPUs that are not NVIDIA or AMD will continue to use DirectX 9. Updates have also been made to improve rendering, responsiveness, stability, and lighting across a variety of hardware.

Performance Updates
  • This patch includes a number of optimizations:
  • Enhanced rendering performance for smoother visuals.
  • Improved responsiveness in how graphics are processed.
  • Fixed crashes linked to certain graphics settings.
  • Addressed shadow flickering and water reflections.
  • Resolved lighting inconsistencies to ensure steady brightness.
Enchanted by Nature: Ailments Options
A new toggle has been added to Game Options under Pack Settings. Players can now disable the spread of Ailments so that only Sims who have contracted one will be affected. Fairies can still deliberately inflict Ailments, and Naturopaths can continue to treat them. Another toggle for “Enable Balance & Imbalance” has been introduced, preventing Sims from developing Ailments due to becoming Very Imbalanced.

Upcoming Creator Kits
The Creator Kits collection will soon expand with two new releases: Grange Mudroom by Peacemaker_ic and Essential Glam by Crypticsim. Both kits will be available later this month.
