The Sims 4 has expanded once again, this time with a free update that brings new depth and realism to Create a Sim. For many players, Skin Details are not just cosmetic—they are a way to tell authentic stories, reflect lived experiences, and represent themselves and others within the game.
Building on the success of the Vitiligo update released a year and a half ago, the development team set out to enhance the Base Game with additional options that showcase the beauty of age, individuality, and diversity. The result is a collection of new Skin Details designed with both creativity and authenticity in mind.
Elder Sims received particular attention in this release. Wrinkles, Age Spots, and Dark Spots were introduced to highlight the richness of aging, while new options for Rosacea, Stretch Marks, and expanded Freckles ensure a wider variety of experiences can be represented in-game. These details were carefully designed to remain true to The Sims’ iconic style, while still reflecting the real-world features that inspired them.
Two Art Directors, Tracey and Cheyenne, guided the creative process. Tracey emphasized representation of age and body mass, noting how body wrinkles around the knees and stomach showcase the natural beauty of aging. Cheyenne led the project from concept to completion, ensuring each wrinkle and spot was both believable and harmonious with existing features. Together, the team created a range of options that make Sims feel more expressive and unique.
Among the highlights of this update are:
Wrinkles & Age Details: A variety of face and body wrinkles, eye bags, and age spots in multiple densities.
Stretch Marks: New upper and lower body designs for arms, legs, and torso in light and dark tones.
Freckles: Expanded options that cover the face and body, with light, medium, and heavy coverage.
Rosacea: Three variations that show different levels of redness, available for Sims of multiple ages.
Players will also find that these new Skin Details layer seamlessly with Tattoos and Body Hair, scale naturally with body adjustments in Create a Sim, and remain with Sims as they age. While wrinkles are not available for teens and the new details do not yet extend to children, the team has confirmed that future updates will expand on these features.
This release reflects The Sims 4 team’s ongoing commitment to enhancing representation and self-expression in the Base Game. With more customization options on the horizon, the possibilities for storytelling and creativity continue to grow.
