Enchanted by Nature Ailment Tuning

ENCHANTED BY NATURE AILMENT TUNING

The Sims 4 team has introduced new updates to the Enchanted by Nature Expansion Pack, focusing on fine-tuning how Ailments affect gameplay. These changes aim to make Ailments feel more engaging without overwhelming players, while also giving more control over how they appear in each save.

When Ailments were first designed, the idea was to add variety to storytelling and challenge. Depending on the situation, they could be frustrating setbacks, opportunities to practice the Apothecary skill, or even quirky benefits. For example, the Greenie Meanie condition may cause tension in relationships but also boosts Gardening skill—perfect for Sims who prefer spending time in the garden over socializing.

Despite these intentions, many players felt Ailments appeared too frequently. Earlier patches adjusted the rate of spread, but with this latest update, players now have the option to turn contagious Ailments off entirely.

A new toggle can be found under Game Options > Pack Settings > Enchanted by Nature. The setting “Enable Ailment Spread” is on by default, meaning Ailments spread as they currently do (with the reduced chance introduced in the last patch). If switched off, Sims will no longer contract Ailments from everyday activities or from other Sims.

This toggle doesn’t erase existing Ailments—Sims already affected will still need to recover or be treated—but it prevents new contagious cases from appearing. Fairies, PlantSims, the Naturopath career, and other features tied directly to Ailments will still function normally.

For players who prefer to remove Ailments altogether, the same settings menu also includes an option to disable Balance & Imbalance, stopping Ailments from forming in the first place.

Player Guide: Ailments Spread Toggle

How does the toggle work?
With the setting on, Ailments spread at the reduced rate introduced in a previous patch. Turning it off completely stops Ailments from passing between Sims or appearing from daily activities.

What about existing Ailments?
Disabling the toggle won’t clear them. Sims currently sick will still need to recover or seek a cure.

Do other Ailment-related features still work?
Yes. Fairies can still apply or cure Ailments, PlantSims can use Poison Kiss, and Naturopath clients may arrive with symptoms. Players can continue crafting cures at the Apothecary Table.

Can I remove Ailments entirely?
Yes. Disable both Ailment Spread and Balance & Imbalance in the same menu. Only directed interactions (like a Fairy giving an Ailment) or certain career-related events will cause them.

With these updates, Enchanted by Nature becomes more adaptable to different playstyles, whether players want Ailments to be a central challenge, a minor background element, or removed altogether.
