Unlocked Apartment Shells

The For Rent Expansion Pack introduces multi-family lots, enabling you to design duplexes and apartments accommodating up to six families (more families can be added using cheats). Inspired by City Living, this mod primarily unveils the shells, which function as elevator portals, and primarily serve aesthetic purposes unless you intend to create dormitories or similar structures. However, with the advent of the For Rent pack, these shells can effortlessly be converted into functional apartments thanks to the streamlined conversion process.

Simply position a shell and an elevator, and the shell will mirror the behavior of the premade City Living apartments. Remember to adjust the foundation height accordingly (the Chic Street shell requires the maximum foundation height) for the shell to accurately recognize the structure.

For those who prefer a DIY approach, here's how to utilize the shells for your custom apartment:

1. Start by building your first floor.
2. Utilize the foundation height tool to raise it to approximately match the lower part of the chosen apartment shell.
3. Select your desired shell and align it with the first floor.
4. If the shell's height doesn't match, adjust the foundation height with the tool and re-add the shell. This is due to a complex technical reason that prevents the shells from automatically adjusting their position and rotation.
5. Once the first floor and shell height are aligned, expand your square room until it fills the entire space within the shell.
6. When the room completely aligns with the shell, the upper part of the shell should appear. If not, use the wall up/down button to refresh it.
7. Place an elevator inside the room. The shell acts as the entrance portal, while the elevator serves as the "exit" portal.
8. To eliminate any foundation clipping through the shell, enter the cheat code "bb.showhiddenobjects". This will reveal City Living and Base Game foundations designed for apartments, concealing them effectively.
9. Now you're free to create your dream apartment layout! This method also allows you to utilize these "faux" apartments as commercial lots, as they can be configured for any lot type.

Using Prebuilt Apartments

Alternatively, you can download the optional ApartmentPrebuiltLots file containing pre-built apartments for each shell. These are provided as Tray files, making them readily available in your library. This option eliminates the need for building from scratch, offering ready-to-use apartment configurations for convenience.

The prebuilt apartments include:

• Both Spice Market apartment buildings
• A Fashion District apartment
• 2 Brichester University penthouse dormitories
• 2 Foxburry University penthouse dormitories
• Modern and Non-Modern versions of the Pinecrest Apartments from Evergreen Harbor
