The Royal Legacy Challenge
By LunarBritney | Inspired by llazyneph’s Royalty Mod
This challenge was created as a personalized take on existing royalty-themed gameplay, drawing significant inspiration from llazyneph’s Royalty Mod. While the mod is not required, it complements the challenge extremely well.
OBJECTIVE
Players are tasked with guiding a royal family through ten generations, making strategic decisions to increase the family's Prestige—a points-based system that reflects reputation, wealth, legacy, and social success. The challenge ends when the tenth generation’s heir ascends to the throne, or if the royal family fails due to a lack of heirs or catastrophic loss of Prestige.
KEY CONCEPTS
Monarch: The ruling leader of the royal household. This title is passed down upon their death. Monarchs may only work in the Politics career.
Heir: The chosen successor to the Monarch, selected based on the player’s Kingdom Laws. Heirs may work in other careers until they inherit the throne.
Consort: The spouse or partner of the Monarch, responsible for continuing the family line. Consorts are allowed to work.
Royal Family: Immediate family members of the Monarch. They are considered nobility, but not all nobles are part of the Royal Family.
Nobles: Select Sims from player-determined households. Nobles must represent a minority of the world’s population and may only work in specific careers: Politics, Secret Agent, Astronaut, Business, Military, Doctor, Social Media, and Style Influencer. Teen jobs are not allowed.
Commoners: All other Sims in the save, representing the majority of the population.
Prestige: A numerical score system that reflects the status, success, and legacy of the Royal Family.
SETTING UP
Create Your Royal Family
The Monarch must be a Young Adult, Adult, or Elder (if male); or a Young Adult or Adult (if female). The family may include consorts, parents, or siblings, but the Monarch must not yet have any children.
Start with §500,000 (use cheats) to build or purchase a home. Once placed, the family must not move for the duration of the challenge.
Establish Noble Households
Choose or create at least three to four noble families in your save. All other Sims will be classified as commoners. It is recommended to mark noble families as “My Households” to track them easily.
Create External Kingdoms (Optional)
Players may add additional royal and noble families in other worlds to serve as foreign aristocracy. This is useful for arranging cross-kingdom marriages and diversifying the dating pool.
BASIC RULES
- No cheats or mods that offer unfair advantages.
- The Royalty Mod and MC Command Center are recommended for smooth gameplay.
- Lifespan must be set to normal, and aging must be enabled for both active and inactive households.
- Players may only control the Royal Family during gameplay.
- Select Kingdom Laws at the beginning of the challenge and adhere to them. Conditions for changing them are listed below.
The challenge ends if:
- The tenth generation heir becomes Monarch (success).
- The Monarch dies without a legitimate heir or Prestige drops to –10,000 (failure).
- Marriage and Inheritance
- Marriage and succession are central to this challenge.
- Marrying a commoner significantly reduces Prestige.
- Inheritance is determined by the selected Kingdom Laws. If the Monarch dies without a child, the throne passes to a sibling (this does not count as a new generation).
- Illegitimate children cannot inherit unless legitimized, which requires a 100% relationship with the Monarch and will cost Prestige.
Optionally, royal children are expected to excel academically:
- Toddlers must reach one skill at level 5 or three skills at level 3.
- Children and teens must earn at least a B grade in school.
- Failure to meet these expectations requires randomized trait assignment on birthdays.
Kingdom Laws
Choose one rule from each category below at the start of the challenge. Law changes are allowed only under specific conditions and always incur a Prestige cost.
Lineage
- Matrilineal: Daughters have priority in succession. Spouses join the wife’s family.
- Patrilineal: Sons have priority. Spouses join the husband’s family.
- Equality: Gender does not affect succession. Spouses always join the Royal Family.
Marriage
- Arranged: Royal Family members may only marry if the Monarch has at least 50% friendship with the fiancée and their parents.
- Free: Royal Family members may marry whomever they wish.
Succession
- Traditional: Only biological children of the Monarch may inherit. Adopted children are not eligible.
- Modern: Adopted children are eligible to inherit after biological children.
Inheritance
- Birth: The first eligible child inherits the throne.
- Merit: The child with the highest total skill points becomes the heir.
- Strength: Eligible heirs must compete in combat. The winner takes the throne.
Taxes
- Low: Collect §2,500 weekly; –50 Prestige per week.
- Medium: Collect §10,000 weekly; –100 Prestige per week.
- High: Collect §50,000 weekly; –500 Prestige per week.
Rulership
- Democratic: Laws can be changed if the Monarch has 100% friendship with all noble leaders. Cost: –1,000 Prestige. Monarchs may be deposed.
- Moderate: Laws can be changed with 50% friendship from half the noble leaders. Cost: –1,000 Prestige. Monarchs may be deposed.
- Authoritarian: Laws can be changed anytime. Cost: –3,000 Prestige. Monarchs cannot be deposed.
