Sulmate
Create deeper relationships with Sulmate, featuring special romantic and platonic bonds, storytelling interactions, and soulmate milestones.

Sulmate by thatssojordy is a relationship-focused mod for The Sims 4 that introduces a deeper soulmate system for both romantic and platonic relationships. Instead of relying only on the game's standard soulmate relationship, the mod lets Sims believe in the idea of Sulmates and potentially form a unique bond with another Sim.

The system is designed for players who enjoy emotional storytelling, meaningful friendships, romance, and relationship-driven gameplay.

What Does Sulmate Add?

The mod introduces a new type of special relationship called a Sulmate. These connections can be either romantic or completely platonic, giving players more flexibility when creating stories.

Romantic Sulmates are intended to feel deeply connected and naturally drawn to one another, while platonic Sulmates represent exceptionally strong friendships between Sims.

Believing in Sulmates

Sims from Teen through Elder can receive one of two new traits:
  • Believes in Sulmates
  • Doesn't Believe in Sulmates

The mod can assign these traits based on different factors when a save is loaded. Players can also change a Sim's belief trait manually using the available Shift-click option.

The belief traits are designed to interact with existing personality traits. For example, the Sulmate believer trait conflicts with traits such as Unflirty, Romantically Reserved, and Commitment Issues, while the non-believer trait conflicts with Romantic and Lovebug.

Romantic Sulmates

Romantic Sulmates are Sims who share a particularly strong romantic connection.

The Sulmate prompt can appear during romantic interactions when the Sims meet the required conditions. The romance relationship needs to be at 70 or higher, both Sims need to believe in Sulmates, and the active Sim cannot already have a Sulmate.

Once the relationship is established, the Sims receive a dedicated relationship type and can experience special buffs connected to their Sulmate's emotions.

For example, a romantic Sulmate may be affected by the emotional state of their partner, helping make the connection feel more significant during everyday gameplay.

Platonic Sulmates

Not every special bond has to be romantic.

Sulmate also introduces Platonic Sulmates, allowing two Sims to form an exceptionally strong friendship without becoming romantic partners.

The friendship relationship needs to reach 60 or higher, and the other Sim must believe in Sulmates. The prompt can appear through Friendly or Funny interactions.

Platonic Sulmates receive their own relationship type and special reactions from friendly and humorous interactions. Because the relationship is specifically platonic, these Sims cannot use romantic interactions with one another as Sulmates.

Choosing a Sulmate

When the appropriate requirements are met, Sims can receive a prompt asking whether they want to embrace or reject the Sulmate connection.

This gives players control over their stories instead of automatically forcing two Sims into the relationship.

Importantly, rejecting a Sulmate does not create negative consequences, so players can freely decide whether a particular relationship fits their storyline.

Storytelling Interactions

Sulmate adds additional interactions specifically designed around the new relationship system.

Some interactions depend on whether a Sim believes in Sulmates, while others become available when Sims interact with their own Sulmate. These interactions can produce different buffs and notifications that reflect the relationship.

This makes the system useful for storytelling saves where players want friendships and romances to have more distinctive identities.

Online Sulmate Test

The mod also adds a new computer interaction that allows Sims to take an online test to find out whether they have discovered their Sulmate.

This provides another way to explore the system without simply waiting for relationship interactions to trigger a result.

Romance Guru Feature

Players who own The Sims 4: City Living get an additional option involving the Romance Festival.

During an active Romance Festival, Sims can ask the Romance Guru about finding their Sulmate. The interaction can result in notifications and buffs, with both positive and negative outcomes possible.

This feature requires City Living and an active Romance Festival.

Sulmate Marriage Milestone

The mod also adds a custom milestone for Sims who marry their Sulmate.

If two Sims who are Sulmates get married, their relationship receives a special milestone recognizing the occasion. This gives the marriage additional significance in long-term saves.

Ever After Compatibility

Sulmate also includes an integration with Ever After by thatssojordy.

When both mods are installed, Ever After receives an additional marriage-proposal rejection reason connected to the Sulmate system. This allows the two mods to work together for more detailed relationship and marriage storytelling.

Who Is Sulmate For?

Sulmate is a good choice for players who enjoy:
  • Romantic storytelling
  • Deep friendships
  • Soulmate-style relationships
  • Character-driven saves
  • Relationship milestones
  • Long-term family gameplay
  • More meaningful social interactions

The addition of both romantic and platonic Sulmates is particularly useful for storytelling because it allows players to create different kinds of once-in-a-lifetime connections.

Final Thoughts

Sulmate by thatssojordy gives The Sims 4 a dedicated system for special romantic and platonic bonds. Sims can believe—or not believe—in Sulmates, discover a potential match through relationship interactions, receive unique buffs and notifications, consult the Romance Guru, and even earn a special milestone when they marry their Sulmate.

For players who want relationships to feel more personal and story-driven, Sulmate offers a simple way to make certain friendships and romances stand out from ordinary relationships.
