Choose Your Roommate

This mod empowers players to handpick which Sims become roommates—especially useful for university gameplay with the Discover University pack, but also beneficial for regular homes. Instead of random roommates showing up, you can now invite specific Sims—friends, created characters, or romantic partners.

How It Works

Preparing Roommates

The Sims you want must be homeless (living in no lot) and, if you're in university, they must first be enrolled via standard interactions (phone/mailbox), choosing “At Home” as their living arrangement.

Next, evict their households to maintain their homeless status.

Inviting Roommates

Go to your mailbox, and you’ll see two new options: “Choose a Roommate” and “Remove a Roommate”.

If you choose to add a roommate, you’ll see a list of eligible Sims and can select one, provided there’s a free bed and you haven't hit the roommate limit (10 by default).

Managing New Roommates

Picked Sims arrive shortly and claim a bed automatically.

The game creates them as their own homeless household—you’ll need to assign them a name in Household Manager and consider adding them to your “My Households” list for easier management.

Optional Roommate Cap Increase

There’s an optional add-on to raise the default limit from 10 roommates up to 20, giving more flexibility for crowded households or legacy builds.

Important Notes

• If roommates vanish or do not save properly, ensure they remain homeless and check that no other mod (like MCCC) is auto-assigning them to a lot.
• Roommates may still move out naturally due to in-game events, like graduation or aging up—this is part of Sims logic, not a mod issue.

Players love how this mod gives control back to the builder—allowing for curated roommate setups rather than relying on random selections. It’s ideal for university gameplay, roommate-centric storylines, or just keeping favored NPC Sims around without making them full household members.

One player even mentioned it revived their interest in roommate dynamics, allowing them to play as a multi-Sim household without managing everyone actively.
