The 50/50 cleaning method is a troubleshooting method for mod-related issues in your game.
Here's how to do it:
1) Take out half of your mods (including custom contents) and place them in your desktop or somewhere safe;
2) Delete the localthumbcache.package file from The Sims 4 folder, then run your game and observe.
If the issue persists, keep taking out half of the contents of your Mods folder until the issue is gone. That's when you know the problematic file/s is/are in that last batch of mods that you took out.
Put back half of that last batch you removed, delete the localthumbcache file, and observe.
If the issue comes back, take out half of that batch you just put back, delete the localthumbcache file, and test your game again.
Just repeat the process until you find the culprit.
