Paws & Hooves by LittleUnicorn adds animal shelter management and pet breeding gameplay to The Sims 4, allowing Sims to care for animals, find them new homes, and run a business focused on cats, dogs, and horses. With dedicated lot traits, customer interactions, and animal pricing systems, the mod offers new opportunities for players who enjoy animal care and business management.
The mod introduces two distinct lot traits: Animal Shelter and Breeding Farm. Animal shelters allow households to take in up to 10 random cats and dogs from the local pound for free and find potential adopters through a Small Business. Breeding farms, meanwhile, focus on breeding pedigree animals, arranging health checks, offering stud services, and accepting reservations for upcoming litters. These lot traits cannot be used together on the same lot.
When running a Small Business with the Pet Sales customer activity, Sims can present animals to customers, discuss their qualities, and negotiate prices. Customers may interact with the animals before deciding whether to adopt them, and successful sales transfer the animal to the buyer's household with the appropriate owner relationship. Employees can also help introduce animals and make sales offers.
Each animal receives a calculated selling price based on factors such as species, age, breed, training, pedigree, health certificates, and pregnancy. Horses can also earn higher values through their skills, competition achievements, and champion bloodlines. Players can review an animal's value, family lineage, sales status, and customer feedback through its information card or the Breeding Registry available on a computer.
Animal shelters offer additional features, including scheduled adoption days that attract more customers, donations from visitors, and daily financial assistance for eligible animals taken in from the pound. Breeding farms can arrange stud services for adult male animals and allow customers to reserve babies before they are born, with deposits paid in advance.
The mod also introduces a Household Pets door lock, which keeps the household's own pets out of designated areas while still allowing visitor and customer animals to pass through. Customer interest and opinions are saved, allowing players to continue managing their business across play sessions.
The Sims 4: Cats & Dogs is required. The Sims 4: Businesses & Hobbies is also required for the Small Business sales system, adoption days, donations, stud services, and reservations. The Sims 4: Horse Ranch is optional and is needed for selling horses and offering horse stud services. No additional libraries or dependency mods are required.
Paws & Hooves is a detailed gameplay addition for players who want to operate an animal shelter, manage a breeding business, negotiate fair pet prices, and build a new kind of animal-focused business in The Sims 4.
