The Sims 4 January 13, 2026 Update
This update adds free Coach items, fixes gallery and photo issues, improves stability, and refines CAS and Build/Buy sorting.

The Sims 4 received a new game update on January 13, 2026, available across PC, Mac, PlayStation, and Xbox. This patch focuses on improving game stability, fixing long-standing issues, and refining Create a Sim and Build/Buy organization. It also includes a small set of free items for all players.

Free Content: Coach Collection

This update introduces the Coach Collection, a set of free items added to the game at no cost. The collection includes new clothing and decorative items, giving players additional options in both Create a Sim and Build/Buy Mode without requiring any packs.

Save File and Stability Improvements

Several fixes in this patch address issues that could disrupt gameplay or affect save files:
  • Objects placed in shared or open areas now behave correctly when traveling between lots, including apartments.
  • Certain venue scheduling issues that caused endless loading or forced players back to world management have been resolved.
  • Overall game stability has been improved to reduce crashes and unexpected behavior, especially in complex saves.

Gallery, Photos, and Paintings Fixes

Players who enjoy photography, painting, or sharing builds will notice improvements:
  • Gallery uploads are now more reliable, with fewer errors during the upload process.
  • Photos and paintings that previously appeared blank or lost their image data after restarting the game now display correctly.
  • “Paint by Reference” artwork no longer turns white when moved between inventories or storage.

Gameplay and Interaction Fixes

The update also resolves several gameplay inconsistencies:
  • Sims now correctly gain needs while at work, school, daycare, or when using Away Actions.
  • Toddler and infant needs increase as expected while they are off-lot.
  • The “Fight” interaction is now limited to Sims who have a negative relationship, preventing inappropriate autonomous behavior.

Create a Sim and Build/Buy Improvements

A large portion of this update focuses on organization and tagging:
  • Many hairstyles are now correctly categorized by texture type, such as straight, wavy, or afro-textured, improving CAS filtering.
  • Objects and décor items now appear in the correct Build/Buy categories and subcategories.
  • Certain skill-related objects now grant the appropriate skill gains and are sorted under the correct skill filters.

Pack-Specific Adjustments

Multiple expansion packs, game packs, and kits received targeted fixes. These include corrected object categories, improved sorting for hair and accessories, and adjustments to lighting and décor placement. The result is a smoother browsing experience and easier item discovery across owned packs.

Why This Update Matters

While this patch does not introduce major gameplay systems, it delivers meaningful quality-of-life improvements. Better sorting, fewer crashes, and fixed gallery and photo issues make everyday gameplay smoother and more reliable, especially for long-term saves and creative players.
