The Grim Reaper watching a female sim afloat a swimming pool
Separate swimming skill, risk of drowning, new careers, and aquatic adventures await.

Realistic Swimming is a mod for The Sims 4 made by ilkavelle that adds a genuine swimming skill separate from the fitness skill, bringing more depth and realism to water activities. Sims who have little or no swimming experience face realistic risks when spending time in water. The mod introduces buffs such as “Barely Floating” and “Risk of Drowning,” meaning that Sims with low swimming skill can drown if they stay in the water too long. As their skill increases, Sims gain new interactions like drifting on their back, jumping from diving platforms, swan dives, snorkeling, scuba diving, backflips, and even mentoring other Sims in swimming.

Release & Feature Enhancements
Realistic Swimming was first released in late 2022. Over time it has been updated to version 2.0, with improvements that include a semi-active career called “Professional Swimmer” which branches into specializations such as Aquatic Performer, Underwater Photographer, Marine Wildlife Specialist and others. There is also an aspiration focused on swimming, additional buff effects, improved stamina in water, protective gear like pool floats, and safety interactions like throwing a lifeline. The mod supports more content if you own relevant expansion packs, but it remains fully functional with the base game.
