The Sims 4 For Rent expansion issues and upcoming fixes explained in detail.
Find out what’s going on with The Sims 4 For Rent issues and the fixes being worked on.

Players have raised questions and concerns about The Sims 4: For Rent Expansion Pack, particularly regarding save file issues and the impact on gameplay performance. In response, The Sims team has provided an update on the current status of investigations and fixes.

The update covers four key areas:
  1. Issues with For Rent currently under investigation
  2. Ongoing save-related issues in The Sims 4 more broadly
  3. Preventative measures taken before content release
  4. Guidance for players experiencing serious technical problems

The team emphasized that nothing is more important than the game’s performance and player enjoyment. Investigations have revealed that the issues are not the result of a single bug, but rather a range of factors influenced by varying devices, setups, packs, and playstyles. Because of this complexity, extended investigation has been required before providing a full update.

For Rent: Known Issues

So far, 29 community-reported issues with For Rent have been fixed. As of August 26, 37 issues remain active across two statuses:

26 Issues Under Investigation: The team is working through its internal process, which includes replicating bugs, identifying causes, developing and testing fixes, and scheduling updates.

11 Issues Requiring More Information: Progress on these issues depends on additional details from players. The most useful data includes save files that clearly demonstrate the bug.

For Rent: Save File Issues

Among the 37 open issues, two have been strongly linked to save file corruption:
  • Disappearing lots/houses in saves with many rental units (173 votes). A partial fix has been identified, but the issue will not be marked resolved until confirmed stable.
  • White screen when loading worlds (39 votes). This has been tracked primarily on PlayStation 4, and more player reports are needed.

The team has encouraged players to continue voting and reporting issues to help prioritize fixes.

The Sims 4: Broader Save File Issues

Beyond For Rent, six save-related problems have been identified that affect the base game:
  • Game won’t load at all. Currently, no confirmed reports.
  • Game loads but saves fail to open. Three major issues are being tracked:
  • Lots failing to load after the August 19, 2025 update (104 votes).
  • Endless loading screen when using Gallery lots (81 votes).
  • Error codes 800/801 preventing saves from loading (44 votes).
  • Game and save files load, but content is broken. Three additional issues are under review:
  • Neighboring builds missing (98 votes).
  • Builds/lots disappearing (85 votes).
  • Furniture floating due to missing builds (14 votes).

While not all of these are unique to For Rent, connections may emerge as investigations continue.

How The Sims Team Investigates Issues

Before releasing new content, the team conducts compliance testing across platforms, multiple quality checks, and playtesting with both the internal Sims team and a group of experienced community players.

However, it is impossible to test against every combination of packs, playstyles, and hardware setups. Once content is live, player reports become critical for identifying issues at scale. Mods and custom content (CC) further complicate investigations, as some alter save file structures in ways that the development team cannot predict or control. Best practices, such as disabling mods before updates, are strongly recommended.

Reporting and Fixing Issues

Players experiencing problems that prevent gameplay or corrupt saves are encouraged to submit detailed reports and, when possible, share their save files. This information allows the team to reproduce issues and develop fixes more quickly.

Both older and newly reported issues are given equal priority, and while many players continue to play without interruption, the team acknowledged the frustration these bugs cause. Updates will continue to be shared through official channels such as SimsDirect on X, Discord, the Laundry List, and patch notes.

The team is also preparing resources on backing up save files and improving game performance. In addition, players are invited to join the official Sims Discord community to provide direct feedback, participate in surveys, and engage in a new feedback forum launching August 27.
