The Sims 4 kicks off the new year with a January 14, 2025 update, bringing a fresh look, performance improvements, and a long list of bug fixes just in time for the franchise’s upcoming 25th birthday. While the celebration officially begins in February with a special in-game event, this patch lays the groundwork with meaningful improvements across the base game and multiple packs.
Main Menu Visual Refresh
The first thing players will notice after updating is a brand-new Main Menu design. Navigation has been reorganized to reduce clutter and highlight key information:
- New Game / Resume Game has moved from right to left.
- Home, Events, and Store now sit at the top, with Options on the far right.
- The center display now features the Sims from your last played household.
- Important news and updates are displayed on the right-hand side.
Alongside the redesign, players will also receive a teaser about the upcoming Blast from the Past Birthday Event, beginning February 4, 2025. Rewards include nostalgic items inspired by the early 2000s, such as a milk carton, rotary phone, inflatable chair, and triple-tiered birthday cake.
Performance and Memory Improvements
The update also focuses on making the game smoother across platforms:
- Gameplay: Mouse movement and responsiveness are improved on PC, Mac, and Console.
- Graphics: Optimizations for Mac and PS4 improve rendering efficiency.
- Memory usage: Enhanced handling reduces crashes and improves stability across all systems.
Townie Home Refresh
- Classic homes in Willow Creek and Oasis Springs have received stylish updates.
- Willow Creek: Cypress Terrace, Ophelia Villa, Pique Hearth, Garden Essence
- Oasis Springs: Sultry Springside, Affluista Mansion, Cacti Casa, Slipshod Mesquite
- For new saves, updated versions appear automatically. Existing saves can access them manually via the My Library tab, where both the legacy and refreshed lots are available.
