2 sims on a raft sailing in the ocean
This step-by-step guide shows how to move your Sims and their home safely using the in-game Library and Gallery features.

If you’ve ever wanted to move your favorite Sims family from one save to another in The Sims 4, you’re not alone. Whether you are starting a new world, reducing lag, or continuing a family’s story in a fresh environment, transferring a household is simple and completely safe. This guide explains exactly how to do it.

Why Transfer a Household

There are many reasons Simmers move their Sims to a different save:
  • Too many Sims in the world are causing lag or slow performance.
  • You want a fresh start without losing your favorite families.
  • You are rebuilding your worlds after a game update or installing new mods.
  • You want to back up important households before making big changes.

Whatever your reason, this process is completely done in-game—no external tools required.

Step 1: Open the Save That Has Your Household

Load the save file that contains the Sims you want to move.
From Live Mode, click the Options (… ) button in the top right and choose Manage Worlds → Just Go to Manage Worlds.

Step 2: Go to Manage Households

Once you are in Manage Worlds, click the Manage Households button in the top-right corner of the screen.

You will see two tabs:
  1. My Households – Sims you are currently controlling.
  2. Other Households – NPCs and other Sims in the world.

Find the household you want to transfer.

Step 3: Save the Household to Your Library

Click the household’s portrait, then select the Save to My Library icon (the folder with an arrow).
This will add your household to your in-game Library or Gallery, allowing you to use them in any save file.

Tip: You can also save a household directly from Create-A-Sim by clicking the save icon at the top right.

Step 4: Load the New Save

Go back to the Main Menu and load or create the new save where you want your Sims to live.
Once the world loads, open Manage Worlds → Manage Households → My Library.

Step 5: Place the Household

Find your saved household in the Library and click Place Household.
Choose a home or an empty lot, and your Sims will be added to the new save with their skills, careers, funds, and household relationships intact.

Optional: Move Their House, Too

If you want to move their home along with them:
  • In the original save, enter Build Mode on their lot.
  • Click Save Lot to My Library.
  • In your new save, open the Library and place both the lot and the household.

This will replicate their home exactly as it appeared in your old save.

What Transfers and What Does Not

What transfers:
  • Sim appearances, outfits, and traits
  • Skills and aspiration progress
  • Careers and job levels
  • Relationships within the same household
  • Household funds

What does not transfer:
  • Friendships with Sims outside their household
  • Clubs, neighborhood stories, or world-specific data

Final Tips
  • Always back up your saves before making large changes.
  • If your Library looks empty, check the box for Include Custom Content.
  • You can upload households to the Gallery if you want to use them on another device or share them online.

Conclusion
Transferring a household to another save in The Sims 4 is the easiest way to keep your favorite Sims without the clutter of an old world. In just a few steps, you can move them—along with their home—into a fresh new story. Enjoy your new save while keeping your Sims’ legacy alive.
