Fear Factory is a gameplay-enhancing mod that introduces 20 distinct phobias (like fear of bees, darkness, public speaking, or gnomes) into the game. It adds unique moodlets, social interactions, and whim disruptions tied to these fears, making Sims’ personalities and behaviors more nuanced and unpredictable.
How It Works
You can assign fears to a Sim through a new Fear Factory menu in the Sim’s actions. Options include selecting individual fears, assigning a random one, or removing all fears at once.
Each fear triggers specific interactions (like avoidance or anxious behavior), unique emotional buff or debuff moodlets, and altered autonomous behavior—Merely saying “hello” or being in a certain environment can trigger a fear response.
List of Fears Included:
- Bees (Melissaphobia)
- Being Touched (Haphephobia)
- Birds (Ornithophobia)
- Cats (Elurophobia)
- Clowns (Coulrophobia)
- Crime (Scelerophobia)
- Darkness (Nyctophobia)
- Deep Water (Thalassophobia)
- Dogs (Cynophobia)
- Dolls (Automatonophobia)
- Fire (Pyrophobia)

Community Feedback Highlights
Players often point out how organic and dramatic fear responses can be. One shared how a Sim terrified of the dark became socially awkward during a festival at night, leading to chaotic interactions and emotional breakdowns.
Others mention how the mod brings memorable, narrative-rich moments to gameplay, though it can occasionally overwhelm Sims if fears stack up rapidly.
