This is a custom trait mod created by a player named DaleRune. It adds a “Deaf” or “Hard of Hearing” trait that you can give your Sims in Create-a-Sim.
Gameplay effects
Sims with this trait learn certain skills at a slower rate—especially skills tied to sound, like playing instruments, singing, DJ mixing, and media production. Child Sims also learn the Social skill more slowly. In careers like Entertainer, their performance is reduced.
Assistive devices
If a Sim has hearing aids or a cochlear implant, the learning penalties are reduced (skills gain at around 80% speed instead of 50%).
Buffs and quirks
Sims may occasionally get a small buff, such as feeling “Dazed” while wearing hearing aids.
Interactions
The trait can include things like medical diagnoses, choosing hearing aids, or asking other Sims to “speak clearly.” Some versions allow sign language-style interactions.
Community feedback
Players appreciate the representation and extra depth this mod adds, though some note that it can be tricky to install without XML Injector. It doesn’t change Sims’ autonomy, needs, or whims—it mainly affects skills and adds a layer of realism for storytelling.
