Enlist in War by Kuttoe allows teen-to-elder Sims to instinctively sign up for a fictional war, introduce risk of death or survival with pension and traits, and return either as heroes or martyrs. It’s highly customizable, narrative-rich, and has seen continued support for updated Sims 4 patches.
What It Does
Adds a new interaction, “Register for the Draft,” accessible through the Sim's interaction menu. This option is available to teen through elder Sims.
Once a Sim enlists, they receive a 24-hour moodlet signaling their departure and then leave the game world (typically via a rabbit hole) for a set period—by default, about one Sim day.
Upon return, one of two outcomes occurs:
Survival: The Sim comes back alive, receives a Veteran trait, and begins to receive a regular weekly pension, though they may also experience lingering stress or shellshock.
Death: The Sim dies upon return; their death is handled through the game’s typical death mechanics, often featuring a tombstone or Grim Reaper event.
Customization and Settings
- By default, there’s a 50/50 chance of survival or death.
- A settings file was added to the mod later, letting you adjust:
- Length of deployment (days away at war)
- Survival odds (e.g., increasing or decreasing the chance of survival)
- Advanced users can tweak the odds further by editing specific tuning values (like survival percentages) using game tools.
Use Cases & Community Adoption
Designed with the Decades Challenge in mind, this mod streamlines the “draft” mechanic needed for that gameplay style.
It’s also popular among storytellers—letting players create wartime narratives, legacy arcs, or dramatic plot twists without resorting to cheats like cow plants.
On Reddit, users often mention the mod when their Sims get trapped in rabbit holes or fail to return appropriately—with practical workarounds like using teleporter tools or resets to bring Sims back into gameplay.
