Define your Sims’ extended family ties and block romance options among relatives.
The Set Family Relationships mod lets you manually define extended family relations (e.g. cousins, aunts/uncles, stepparents, adoptees) between Sims beyond the game’s default recognition. The companion No Romance for Family mod removes romantic options between those defined family relationships, preventing inappropriate romance menus between family members.
Key Features
You can add or remove relationships via a special “Set Family Relationships” menu (on Sims or via phone/computer). The mod supports many relationship types—parent/child, sibling, step-relations, adopted, godparent, ancestor, and more. Because the game still shows romance options by default, the No Romance for Family mod blocks the romance menu for relationships such as parent, child, sibling, aunt/uncle, cousin, stepfamily, grandparent, etc. The mods are modular: you can enable or disable features or combine them as needed. Updates over time have added more relationship types and refined compatibility.
Mod Release Date
Original public release: September 25, 2019 (for Set Family Relationships). No Romance for Family first made available around October 6, 2019.
Gameplay Role / Impact
These mods deepen family storytelling by letting you define nonstandard family trees or relationships, especially useful in legacy, adoption, or chosen family narratives. They prevent odd romantic interactions between family members, increasing realism and avoiding awkward gameplay moments.
Community Feedback
Users widely praise Set Family Relationships as a “life-saver mod” for creating extended families (cousins, godchildren, ancestors). Many also pair it with the No Romance for Family mod to avoid awkward or creepy romance options in extended families. Some report that after game updates or with XML/Injector incompatibility, the mod may stop working or some relationships don’t apply unless reinstalled.
